The Making of National Heroes, The Making of a Nation – Workshop
Step into the world of heroism and nation-building as you discover the pantheon of Greek national heroes that emerged during the Greek War of Independence. Guided by museum educators, participants will explore The Spirit of Byron exhibition and engage in thought-provoking discussions about:
the rise of modern Greece’s national heroes, such as statesman Ioannis Kapodistrias, the English poet Lord Byron and naval commander Laskarina Bouboulina, out of the Greek War of Independence;
how the experiences, actions, and achievements of these individuals have shaped modern Greece;
the qualities that have defined heroes in both Greece and Australia throughout history;
and what informs or should inform our understanding of a national hero today.
We invite you to unlock the secrets of nation-building and celebrate the enduring legacy of those who shaped modern Greece.
