Engaging with museum collections, artefacts and case studies, students investigate the defining and contested themes of civilisation such as: agriculture, technology, urbanisation, law, specialisation of labour, slavery, social stratification, expansionism, monuments, symbolic and cultural systems of communication (including writing) and globalisation.
