Event Details
This school holidays, join the Hellenic Museum on a journey into the underworld. In this workshop about the mysteries of death and the afterlife, we’ll learn all about beliefs and rituals in ancient Greece and Egypt, before conducting our own ancient Greek style funeral and turning some of our participants into mummies!
First we'll discover objects in the Hellenic Museum galleries, and learn about the rituals and beliefs of these two ancient societies. Then comes the time to put our knowledge into practice. As a group, we will make a miniature funeral pyre according to Greek practices. Participants will then reenact the ancient Egyptian battle of Kadesh, after which the survivors will become holy priests, and the fallen will be wrapped up, 'embalmed' and prepared for their journey into the afterlife!
Are you ready to discover the mysteries of death in the ancient world through the museum collection, and first hand experience? Then join our Journey to the Underworld!
Recommended for young adventurers aged 7–14 years. Tickets include all materials, and Museum general entry after the workshop.
