The following information is intended to help clarify the Hellenic Museum’s approach and policy towards proposed exhibitions, programs and activations. 


The Hellenic Museum’s vision and purpose informs all exhibitions, programs, events or similar projects that are run across the year. The Hellenic Museum’s primary goals include:


  • Aid discovery and understanding of the ongoing relevance and societal impact of Hellenic history, art and culture

  • Make artefacts and art accessible to wider audiences 

  • Engage in innovative research, technology and dialogues across the historical, artistic and academic fields 

  • Create greater opportunities to participate in cultural, historical and artistic experiences 

  • Offer world-class educational experiences across all life and school stages 

  • Exhibit objects and works that appeal to audiences both old and new

  • Enrich the cultural lives of both the local community and visitors 

  • Create opportunities for access and equity within programs and exhibitions

  • Deliver innovative initiatives that redefine the norm, push boundaries or introduce new ways of thinking

  •  Build a lasting legacy by creating works of relevance that contribute positively to social cohesion.

  • Enhance the cultural offerings of Melbourne and support the city’s economic growth 

  • Inspire all Australians for a better tomorrow. 


All proposals must indicate how they align with the vision and purpose of the Hellenic Museum.


As a public not-for-profit, the Hellenic Museum neither accepts nor facilitates commercial exhibitions nor does it loan spaces for such activities. The galleries, and the site as a whole, are curated spaces and, as such, all exhibitions and programs are delivered in collaboration with the Hellenic Museum. The Hellenic Museum Curatorial Team reserves the right to final sign-off on any exhibition content. 


Please note that the Hellenic Museum does not accept proposals for commissions nor does it accept invitations to purchase objects. Further, the Hellenic Museum does not undertake the development of projects or curatorial content for external Parties and reserves the rights to any and all content and imagery produced by the Museum for, and during, the course of a given exhibition, event, program, activation or similar experience.
