Calliope Muse Mug
  • Calliope Muse Mug

The Hellenic Musuem has partnered with Natalie Rompotis Illustration and Salt&Pepper to produce the final set of five limited edition mugs in the Muses series, reimagining mythical muses representing poetry, astronomy, dance, and music, inspired by the nine goddesses of ancient Greek mythology who symbolized the arts, sciences, and literature.

    Calliope

In Greek mythology, Calliope is the Muse of Epic Poetry, and the eldest of the nine Muses who were sources of inspiration for the arts, science and philosophy. She is most often portrayed holding a tablet and stylus or a scroll, onto which she scribes her verses. Her name comes from the Greek words kallos and ops, which together mean “beautifully-voiced.”
