Thalia Muse Mug
  • Thalia Muse Mug

The Hellenic Musuem has partnered with Natalie Rompotis Illustration and Salt&Pepper to produce the final set of five limited edition mugs in the Muses series, reimagining mythical muses representing poetry, astronomy, dance, and music, inspired by the nine goddesses of ancient Greek mythology who symbolized the arts, sciences, and literature.

    Thalia

In Greek mythology, Thalia is the Muse of Comedy, one of the nine Muses who were sources of inspiration for the arts, science and philosophy. She is most often depicted with a comic theatre mask or a shepherd’s crook – which inspired the Vaudevillian trope of performers “getting the hook” off stage! Her name comes from the Greek word thaleia, meaning “rich festivity” or “blooming.”
