    Destruction de Missolonghi, 1827

    M. Lavigne (lithographer); C. Langlois (artist)

    Paris: Engelmann. Lithograph. 79 x 86 cm.

The fall of Mesologgi on 10 April 1824 saw the town stormed by Ibrahim Pasha of Egypt and an Ottoman-Egyptian force following a failed Greek sortie. The event captured the world’s attention and inspired a bevy of art in response, including a painting by Charles Langlois, now known only by Marin Lavigne’s print.
